KCMA Launches Extensive Workforce Development Database for Members
The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) has just launched a new section of its website after months of research into the workforce development and skills gap issue facing the manufacturing industry. Some information will be available to the public, but the database will ultimately serve as a resource and benefit to our 300 member companies.
The manufacturing industry’s skilled labor shortage, coupled with a record low unemployment rate, have underscored the need for a strategic workforce development response. In early 2019, KCMA undertook a major research effort aimed at understanding the current skills gap, as well as identifying workforce development programs and resources.
Resources available in the KCMA Workforce Development database include hundreds of hours’ worth of research into this topic and solutions for companies to implement now. The library of resources includes:
- Workforce development efforts at the Federal and State level – and programs outlined in all 50 states
- Information on how to join and/or create public-private partnerships to build a skilled workforce
- Work-based learning programs and case studies from other companies already participating
- An ever-growing body of skills gap/workforce development articles and reports for companies to better understand the background of this issue
“We have heard from our members time and time again that one of the biggest challenges they face as an organization is finding – and keeping – skilled workers as more and more Baby Boomers retire,” explained Betsy Natz, CEO, KCMA. “Building reliable sources of qualified workers is a sound business investment for our member companies and we are thrilled to offer a centralized source of information for our members to learn about workforce development and gain actionable ideas for how to solve this crisis.”
The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1955 to represent companies who manufacture cabinets, bath cabinets, or other residential cabinets and key kitchen and bath industry suppliers. With a membership now more than 300 strong throughout North America, KCMA works to advance the cabinet industry through advocacy, setting cabinet quality standards, sponsoring kitchen and bath cabinet-related research and providing the cabinet industry with management tools and educational programs.
