This past year has been a roller coaster ride for the remodeling industry (and the world), but we still saw some very distinct trends when it came to kitchen cabinet design, including two-tone kitchens and an increased demand for navy cabinets. As we approach 2021, we look to some of the rising color trends for kitchen cabinets, and make some predictions about the colors we’ll see.
Shades of Greige
Cool grey is becoming a thing of the past. Greige, a combination of grey and beige, warms the undertone of the traditional cool grey and has been on the horizon for a few years now. According to Porch Daydreamer, the newer shades are deeper and now moving toward a warmer beige with yellow undertones. This has a softer, cozier appearance while adding a bit of character.
White is Still a Favorite
The top trend in kitchen design continues to be the use of white painted cabinets. It’s a staple from year to year, and is unlikely to go out of style any time soon. The color complements an array of architectural styles - from traditional to modern. Options for accent colors are unlimited, making for endless creative possibilities. Just be careful when you’re cooking pasta sauce.
It’s Always Greener
Green is a versatile color, which provides warmth and freshness at the same time. Various shades, such as sage, can bring a certain level of sophistication to the space. Using mint-green is a great way to bring life and energy to a room without being overwhelming. If you want to give more depth to the kitchen, New Decor Trends recommends painting the upper cabinets a slightly different shade of green than the base cabinets. For example, teal for the lower cabinets and mint for the upper cabinets.
Charcoal is the New Black
Black is a classic color that should be used in moderation when it comes to cabinets. Too much black can shrink the perceived size of a kitchen, but having some black cabinets can help the space look livable and inviting. A rising trend has homeowners taking risks by adding a smattering of darker colors, giving the kitchens a dramatic look and feel. This is where we will see charcoal find its niche in cabinet colors in 2021.
Adding other colors in the mix – just for fun
Other colors are likely to make brief appearances in 2021 – such as burgundy and yellow. They won’t have a large fanbase, like the other cabinet colors on our list, but they will have a cult following, and are likely to show up in accent pieces throughout the year.
What do you think about these trends? Are there cabinet colors you want to see in 2021?
